Infrared Saunas:
Some facts about Infrared Saunas
An Infrared sauna is a relaxing
and luxurious way to energise and rejuvenate oneself. Infrared
saunas are believed to have many advantages over conventional
saunas and are very popular both in Europe and Asia.
Infrared saunas are more economical to install and run than conventional
saunas. They work to increase the body’s temperature, instead
of that of the whole sauna room. In this manner they are far more
convenient and faster than conventional saunas. A major factor
that contributes to the popularity of infrared saunas is that
they can help in weight loss without exercise or dieting.
Infrared saunas can energise you, boosting immune
functions and relieving stress effectively. They strengthen the
cardio-vascular system, help maintain optimum blood pressure and
cholesterol levels, and help in detoxification of the
body. These saunas are also good for bronchitis, gout, prostate
hypertrophy, tissue damage, yeast infections and urticaria or
hives.
These saunas have also proven to be very effective with pain relief
in joints and muscles, healing burns and getting rid of scar tissue.
Infrared saunas also help get rid of cellulite and are good for
skin problems such as acne, eczema and psoriasis. An infrared
sauna is something that one can buy and use at home. Although
it may not be as exciting as a conventional sauna it is far more
convenient and just as effective.
While buying an infrared sauna it is important
to ensure that the quality of the heater is adequate. The surface
heat should be the minimum possible (between 300° and 350°
F) for the greatest sauna benefits.
The smaller your heater, the longer it will retain its heat –
you can also get heat controllers
on your sauna to help with this. Also, the more heaters you
have, the better your sauna will be.
The heater should ideally be housed in an odourless, solid wood
cabinet made with non-toxic glue. Avoid cabinets made from plywood
as it tends to separate in the hot, humid conditions of a sauna.
Also, a plywood cabinet will release toxic formaldehyde, which
is definitely not the fragrance you are looking for in your sauna!
The therapeutic qualities of infrared saunas are undeniable.
However, infrared saunas do have some drawbacks. Detractors feel
that infrared saunas are not as pleasant an experience as the
classic saunas, with all the rituals and procedures associated
with them. Also, since there is no steam in an infrared sauna,
the benefit of respiratory relief is lost.
But these are just minor disadvantages, and certainly should
not deter you from getting an infrared sauna if you do not suffer
from respiratory problems. Thank you for reading about Infrared
